On Yoga with Screens: Join the Tend Yoga and Wellness Virtual Village
After lots of thought and discussion in the past two weeks, Lynn Brandli and I decided to close the physical studio space, our beloved Little Yoga Co-op, temporarily. While initially we did lots of deep cleaning and sanitizing to be open as a place of support and well-being during this global health crisis, we realized last week that the situation required encouraging social distancing. While it has been a sometimes sad and uncertain process, it has opened up a new opportunity to be creative and evolve, and to offer yoga classes through Zoom and Facebook Live to wider audiences at home.
I never thought I would be doing this. In Purna Yoga we are trained to teach and not just lead. This means watching students carefully, checking alignment and safety, and honoring the exchanges and transmissions of information and experience between teacher and student. Now that we are in a situation where we are often forced to connect through technology, so this is a moment to work on embracing that and trying to teach yoga as best we can through a screen. It’s an opportunity to be even more clear in our instruction, and more careful in our planning. It’s also an opportunity to be better at sharing what we do to new and wider audiences and to keeping the momentum of weekly classes with our regular students.
I am offering my classes virtually at no cost as I explore and learn working with various online platforms. This week I will be using Zoom and Facebook Live. Zoom will probably be the platform I transition to more fully in the longer term. You can join upcoming classes through the links below or join through Facebook.
The Facebook livestream will be through the private page “Tend Yoga and Wellness Virtual Village.” Please request membership if you are interested in joining that way.
This is a great time to work on building a home practice. I will offer a 30 minute class on tips for a home practice on Thursday, March 19 at 9am. Here is the link to that zoom class:

Love to all of you as we navigate this new phase of life! This is definitely getting me to push comfort zones and explore new ways of both teaching and learning.
